Authorise an Agent for your Personal Tax

How to authorise an agent for your personal tax.

After completing your Self Assessment questionnaire with Care Accountancy, the next step is to authorize us as your tax agent through your online personal tax account.

1. Visit the HMRC online services website.

The first step is to sign into your personal tax account via this link here.

2. Choose "Business Tax Account" from the menu bar.

From the menu at the top of the page, navigate to the `Business tax account` section.

3. Select "Manage Account" from the Business Tax Summary page.

At the top of your menu bar, you should now select `Manage account` from the options.

4. Scroll down to "Manage Tax Agents."

In this menu, scroll down to the “Manage Tax Agents” section. Below this title, click on the hyperlink labeled “All Other Tax Agent Services.”

5. Click to authorise an agent.

On the next screen with an older layout, locate the “About You” section and find the “Agent Details” section. Click the link labeled “Authorise an Agent.”

6. Enter the Government Gateway code provided by your agent.

At this stage, enter the agent code provided by your agent in the designated field and click “Next.”

7. Finally, ensure that your agent's details are correct.

The final step is to confirm that the correct agent details appear based on the agent code you provided. If everything looks correct, check the box and click “Next.”

8. Now that you have a tax agent, you can sit back and relax.

Once completed, this will authorize the agent to communicate with HMRC regarding your Self Assessment matters.
