A report from Future Economy Scotland has highlighted the need for potential tax reforms to address financial pressures facing the Scottish public finances. The analysis suggests that additional revenue of around £2.3bn per year may be required to maintain current spending levels.
Proposed options include adjustments to income tax rates and restructuring less efficient taxes. Without reform, the report warns that public spending cuts could become necessary, potentially affecting lower-income households.
Economists have noted that most residents may need to contribute slightly more in tax if fiscal sustainability measures are introduced.
